I am interested in setting up a bear group for ze new instance. Don't think I can commit to a schedule or anything super duper awesome like that, but it'd be something informal, like, hey, everyone's on after a raid or on the weekend, we should go run ZA and get a purple bear.

Post in this if you are interested in attending or have some strategy advice or whatnot. This doesn't mean you are guaranteed an invite if you post or you won't be invited if you haven't; it's just a way to gauge interest (and the number of folks who actually read the forums).

The Basics:

You have 25 minutes to complete the instance from opening the door to downing the last boss. Fifteen to start, five from eagle, five from bear. That's an average of 6 minutes and 15 seconds PER BOSS, including all trash. Much of that will probably be taken up by simple travel time - the instance hasn't gotten any smaller since level 70. Wipes are simply unrecoverable - you don't have any spare time. Even single deaths will dramatically slow the group.

The runs I've done so far, it seems like we take way too long on the eagle gauntlet. That'll be a sticking point, as it is a balance between healer mana, tank aggro, and the need to get through as quickly as possible. Goal looks like <5 minutes each for eagle and bear, <7 for dragonhawk, and <7 for lynx. That's a whole minute built in right there!

Rules:

1. No getting all mopey if you want in and you aren't invited - it's not necessarily a condemnation of your skill or gear or anything, but maybe running 3 fury wars is not the optimal route to go. We'll get folks when we can.

2. You WILL flask and food buff and possibly other short term things as well (specifically invis pots, likely also DPS pots and CERTAINLY mana pots for the healer). Basically we will be treating this like a raid, and I'm not talking those softy raids Llew runs Monday through Wednesday. I'm talking old school vanilla-style farm for 10 hours to raid for 1 and you will damn well take your 5 minute pally blessing and like it.

3. Neph is not allowed to roll for the bear mount until everyone else in the run has at least one.

4. No archaeology buffs until it has been shown that the stupid little bears won't screw us on the eagle boss. Stupid freaking cute... little... D'AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW.

Strategy:

Prior to opening doors the group should buff up and discuss any group specific assignments or tactics. In particular, decide on how to heroism if available, what CC to use where, the way Dragonhawk hatchers will be dealt with, and the strategy for the pull immediately before lynx. Again, do not take the arch buff.

Open the doors. Kill first pack quickly. Run to gauntlet immediately following trash, avoiding the pat, and begin pulls. Tank pulls the first group; dps focuses windwalker first. Once it dies, tank picks up next group, dps again killing windwalker first. Repeat until the final mob is pulled or the tank can't take the damage anymore, then aoe packs down. Engage eagle boss after any necessary drinking time. (Heroism during gauntlet or boss?)

After eagle is down, everyone runs to the bear zone, again avoiding the pat, and the first TWO pulls are engaged simultaneously so as to avoid the pat. Tank should pop a CD if necessary and available. Need to move quickly through the trash (hopefully CCers can adjust on the fly, and they know exactly when the mobs are CCable if CC is used, the timing can be tricky). If Medicine Men are not CCed they are the TOP PRIORITY, as shield/heals will eat up time. Engage bear boss.

After bear is down, run to the first scout pulls. One ranged each should be able to eliminate each of the first two scouts; everyone engages packs quickly. Flame casters need to be CCed/dispelled. Priority for mobs here is scouts>flame casters if not cced>rune guys>melee guys>CCed flamecasters. Might be able to invis pot past some of the trash; if possible do so. Get up to dragonhawk and engage. Don't have time for more than two hatcher cycles; might not have time for more than one, so will need to have a plan for egg release and the zerg at low HP. Heroism will probably come off CD somewhere during this trash; recommended to use immediately so as to gain a third usage during lynx.

Afterwards, move towards lynx area. Skip the pat, engage the right lynx pack. Option here of engaging tamer/croc pack or two mob pack before hut followed by path of frost/levitate. Might be possible to skip both. DON'T BE IN FRONT IF YOU ARE NOT THE TANK. Chain pull first two lynx packs with tank popping a CD; kill third pack and deal with tamer/lynx pack as discussed (is it possible to invis pot past?). Engage lynx, pop hero when it comes up, and inevitably kill the boss three seconds AFTER the timer expires. Grumble, blame the idiot shadow priest, and try again the next day.

This is an initial strat only and it is certainly available for tweaking and modifications. In particular the usage of invis pots is uncertain and testing will likely be needed prior to an actual run.

Pretty sure we will need a heroism to make it through in time given our current gear levels. This means either a shaman or hunter pet, since our mage situation is pretty iffy.

We will not be releasing the guys as we kill the bosses unless it is clear that we will not finish the run in time; that is an extra 10 seconds per that, quite frankly, we likely cannot afford. While it is true that we will lose the loot we get for rescuing folks if we fail the bear run without releasing them, I would point out this: This is not a 353 ilvl run or a gear your alts run. It's a bear run, and anything we can do to save time, we are going to do. We'll probably just have somebody roll need on everything during the run and we can divide up the loot at the end, to avoid distractions.

I could be persuaded.

It'll probably take at least a few practice runs, so anyone who wants to do this has to be prepared for a long ordeal.

I'm not sure why you needed to specify that I'd get the bear last, as that would happen anyway. /emo
